How to Identify and Get Rid of Your Acne Scars

How we feel about our skin is very important because it affects how we feel about ourselves as well as how we relate to others. Acne can leave scars, not just on the skin but also on our self-esteem and confidence.

When you have a full acne breakout or now just the reminders of the breakouts it can take a toll on how we feel about yourself.

There are so many products and so much advice that you get to getting rid of acne scars it’s hard to figure out which is right and which one will leave you with more problems.

1- How to identify Acne Scars

Acne scars are caused by zits that would have appeared and they are swollen, painful, and red. The zits will be coming from inside your skin tissue and this then damages the skin cells which produce collagen that builds up for your skin structure.

Once the skin cells are damaged this then leads to scaring once the zit is no longer there. There are two types of scaring, atrophic which is like dimpled skin or indentions due to very little production of collagen.

However, the opposite can happen and there is the overproduction of collagen then it’s known as hypertrophic scars which are more raised and shiny. These scars are permanent and cannot be treated.

The dark or red spots though that we see on the skin after a breakout are caused by the inflammation during the breakout that would have irritated the skin cells closer to the surface they are not acne scars they are just part of the healing process after a breakout but can leave you feeling ugly and self-conscious of the way you look.

2- How to get rid of the dark red spots

Prevention is always better than cure, with some of these spots they can be prevented by leaving the breakout alone, do not poke or squeeze the zits as this aggravates the skin. Let them heal on their own.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen works wonders when it comes to getting rid of these pigmentations. It helps to protect your skin from exposure to the sun and it speeds up evening your skin tone and prevents further damage.

Over the counter products

There are some products you can buy over the counter that can help to treat these marks. Products that contain micronized benzoyl peroxide have particles that will penetrate under the skin and work from the inside. Differin has a product that has niacinamide and azelaic acid which works but not as effectively and it can take some time to see changes.

Professional intervention

You can go and see a dermatologist or estheticians for some expert treatment, especially for severe acne. Some specialized skincare techniques can help. These include waxing, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and prescribed medications.

Medications can work on both the acne and the scarring as they contain tretinoin, tazarotene, and adapalene. This option can be very expensive so you need to be prepared.

Acne is something that affects millions of people and is sometimes due to genetics. The options that are above can help but they are not full-proof.

With time acne scaring can improve if left to heal on its own. But of course, it is hard to ignore sometimes which is why it is easier to find solutions. Take care of your skin and it will improve with time.
